Video: EAGLES OF DEATH METAL Return To The Bataclan To Pay Respects To Paris Terror Victims
December 8, 2015Members of the EAGLES OF DEATH METAL returned to the Bataclan in Paris, France Tuesday (December 8),nearly a month after a terrorist attack killed 89 people that attended the band's concert at the venue.
According to Agence France-Presse, the musicians — Jesse Hughes, Dave Catching and Julian Dorio — went to the memorial outside the venue to pray. They proceeded to lay flowers at the entrance to the building in that has become a shrine to the victims of the seven coordinated terrorist attacks in the French capital, which killed 130 people overall.
EAGLES OF DEATH METAL joined U2 on stage during the last song of the Irish rock band's December 7 concert at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France. The two bands played a cover version of Patti Smith's classic "Power To The People". The Jesse Hughes-fronted group also played its own tunes after U2 left the stage.
EAGLES OF DEATH METAL later issued a statement thanking the Irish rockers for their support.
"We want to offer our heartfelt thanks and appreciation for everything our brothers in U2 did for us in the aftermath of the November 13 attacks,." they wrote. "We are incredibly grateful to U2 for providing us the opportunity to return to Paris so quickly, and to share in the healing power of rock 'n' roll...
"Thank you to Bono, The Edge, Larry (Mullen, Jr.) and Adam (Clayton),thank you to their wonderful management... We look forward to fighting the good fight on many more fronts very soon, especially when we pick up our tour in 2016. See you again in February, Paris."
The attacks in Paris led to a military response by France against the radical Islamic organization ISIS, as French jets bombed a series of targets in Syria.
The attacks have stepped up worldwide concern over ISIS, as well as a debate in the U.S. over whether to accept Syrian refugees.
EAGLES OF DEATH METAL was founded in 1998 by QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE mainman Josh Homme and his longtime friend Jesse Hughes. Homme appears on all the band's albums but only plays live with them occasionally.
The band's most recent album, "Zipper Down", was released in October and entered at No. 59 on The Billboard 200 album chart. The first single is called "Complexity".
